*** NEW RULE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY ***
After discussion among the staff, a ruling on this issue has been come to. (Yes we know it has been a while)
We will not be imposing a Real Live time rule on hyperspace travel.
But
From Wookiepedia on the subject:(link)
Additionally, it is not a common occurrence for small ships to make long journeys, most civilian and commercial traffic of ships under 100 meters operate within a sector or two of their home systems. What is done as fairly commonplace with our "heroic" characters is outside the norm.
Here is an example. Your in a fighter going from Yavin to Corsucant. Not including the time you will be waiting for a docking bay at Corsucant, your looking at a 12-14 hour journey with a class 1 hyperdrive. This is like driving non-stop from Chicago to NYC and arriving at rush hour. Sure, you have a big tank and do not have to stop for gas, snacks or a drink... but think about all of that coffee you drank before you left to keep you perky through the journey. And let me tell ya, it is not much better in an RV were you can stretch your legs and you have the benefit of a washroom a few steps away.
So here are the rules, we will see how these work out, and modify if needed. If you have a comment or question on this, please ask it in this thread, ranting and back and forth arguing will not be tolerated in C-box.
1. Hyperspace travel should be written as to reflect that the journey has taken some measure of time. If you notice there is always a scene cut in the movies.
2. There is no Real Life time restriction, you may leave orbit of a planet and post into the orbit of another immediately, but time has passed, reflect that in your post (see rule 1)
3. There is no hard and fast set times, consider most hyperspace trips to take a couple hours at minimum between planets that appear very close together on the galactic map and are on major hyperspace lanes. The more out in the boondocks you are from a hyperspace lane, the longer it should take you.
4. Staff realizes that this rule will impact the flow of the story lines, however this is an important element of the SW universe and it is lacking here. Consider it this way: you do something naughty in a system, if travel was truly instant, what's to stop the GA or RGE from showing up moments later to arrest you? Realize that this process works both for and against everyone equally and adds a level to game play that has been sorely lacking thus far.
Thank you,

"While generally determined by the distance between two planets, hyperspace travel times between two locations seemingly close to one another could be drastically extended by the need to navigate around stellar hazards, such as asteroid fields and nebulae.
An example of this is the journey from Coruscant and Alderaan. In terms of distance, Alderaan was very near to Coruscant. However, it required 16 hours of travel to reach Alderaan due to a section of the route crossing through a part of the largely-uncharted Deep Core which is star-choked and therefore more difficult to navigate in due to its many gravity wells. Ironically, then, it was actually slightly faster to get from Tatooine to Alderaan halfway across the galaxy. In some cases, intragalactic travels could take days, depending on the distance between two planets and the obstacles between."
