The Star Temples were a series of ancient massive pyramid-shaped buildings constructed by the Kwa around the Infinity Gate to protect it from intruders. If the Gate was ever activated, the planet housing the equipment would collapse into the Infinity Gate, along with the surrounding planets, moons, and even suns. The Infinity Gates were an ancient network of structures developed by the saurian Kwa species of Dathomir during the Pre-Republic era. They were capable of enabling near-instant interstellar travel between far-flung locations and could also be used as a superweapon. During the Pre-Republic era, the Infinity Gates were constructed by the Kwa though its design was influenced by a Celestial principle. The development of the Infinity Gates enabled the Kwa to colonize other worlds within their region of space. However, their expansion brought them into conflict with the Gree Enclave which had developed similar devices known as hypergates. As the Kwa began to wane in power across the galaxy, the Kwa sealed the Infinity Gates and the Star Temples and set guardians to protect the realm of infinity—whuffa worms with thick hides and impressive speed. Following their extermination by the Rakatan Infinite Empire and the conquest of Dathomir, the surviving Kwa devolved into the primitive and semi-sentient Kwi. In 31 BBY, the Nightsisters succeeded in capturing a local Star Temple and slaughtered many Kwi. The Nightsisters had intended to access the secrets of the Infinity Gate and use it to destroy Coruscant. However, their plot was thwarted by the Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos, who, using his role as Temple Guardian, redirected the deadly wave aimed at Coruscant back at the Infinity Gate. Only the scattered ruins of the Star Temples were left. The Kwi also disappeared into the deserts.

In the dark of night, hours before the meeting with the clans, a slight figure creeps over the scattered and blasted remains of the Star Temple. There is very little of value here, even the rock, having long ago been super-heated and cooled is of little use for building, it vitrified and crumbles under force.
The figure moves stealthily until it finds a spot it was apparently searching for, it pauses and extracts from a pack a series of rods and begins assembling something quite like a small tripod. After a few more moments a device is set on top and activated. A tight narrow beam of a portable boring laser arcs out and begins to descend cutting its way into the remains of the mound. It proceeds rapidly, the loose debris from an explosion long ago that have filled in the crater are nowhere near as dense and difficult to penetrate as solid rock.
The figure disappears into the darkness and aside from a very faint glow, the mound remains as it has for decades.
Several hours later, though still hours before dawn, there is a clattering sound and the glow abruptly ceases. The figure eventually appears out of nowhere and creeps up to the hole, and takes a reading with a scanner.
"Well, I guess that answers one question."
The figure removes another object from its pouch, and activates a panel on the side of the strange cylinder. It seems to twist upon itself, and in a most disturbing way, seeming almost alive, but still quite metallic. The figure sets it down, then takes the parts of the tripod from the drill, disassembles them and drops them down the hole. Before picking up the "special" one.
"Are you ready?"
"yes. up-link established. search and repair protocol engaged."
"I would say enjoy, but well, that kinda goes without saying doesn't it?"
"..."
The figure hunches over and drops the cylinder down the hole, and watches it rapidly disappear into the darkness, then takes a moment to pulla piece of scrap metal from her pack and bury it beneath the sand and covers the hole, erasing any obvious signs that anything happened here.
As dawn approaches Ayu'lesh walks back onto the Banju-12 and immediately seeks out Nissen, who has apparently wired himself into the ship's com system as well as the navigational systems. From the power load on the meters, he is tasking a huge amount of the ships computers to whatever it is he is doing. Nissen eventually reacts to her presence, but his manner is stranger than normal, it reminds her much more of Dweezl.
"You are back red-headed stepchild... your trip was not wasted, well done."
Ayu'lesh plops into a chair tired from her midnight trip. "So anything really down there?"
"Yes... tremendous amounts of wreckage, it is even bigger than "the builders" recorded when they took the planet millenia ago. He has been notified on his data-pad of the progress. Stage-one production shops are beginning to come online. The processing cores are still being searched for, if there is anything left of them. The level of destruction was enormous. But there is plenty of materials and residual energy sources to put together the next several stages of development."
Nissen seems to space back out with no more to say, and Ayu'lesh slumps back into her seat. Six months ago her day consisted of stealing her next meal, or something to bargain for it with, and her big decisions was if that was too spoiled to eat... Now she finds herself sneaking around on a planet with a dangerous reputation, and is involved in something that started tens of thousands of years ago.
She closes her eyes for a minute before her stomach growls and she makes her way to the galley and looks at what is available to eat, she checks one thing and pokes at it suspiciously before sighing heavily and giving it a sniff.
"And I am still making the same damn decisions...."
