Kuat was located in the Kuat system, in Kuat sector, at the edge of the Core Worlds near the Colonies. It was a terraformed planet of forests and plains. Kuat was colonized by Coruscanti settlers around 27,500 BBY, before the Galactic Republic was formed. The Human Kuati had a matriarchal society.
From Kuat, they sent out colony ships of their own which by 26,000 BBY had colonized Alsakan (by the Kuat Explorer), Axum, Tepasi and Humbarine.

-Vestra family estate - Kuat City -
Aprox 23 hours (one standard kuati day) from the last events on the KDY Array.
The place seemed woefully cluttered, Anara Vestra mused to herself thoughtfully, as yet another group of people, close and distant relations alike, had made themselves comfortable in the copious lounge space of the mansions halls. Many of these people would have had their own abodes, several of them, elsewhere on world, far away from the bustle that was the worlds capital.
Others were permenant residents, though Anara saw little of them, she had once resided here herself, but now spent more of her time off world than she would have liked. Her seat on the senate dictated that she be called away from her constituency often to debate core world policies and various items of importance on coruscant it's self. She had a residence there, of course, but she hadn't been back here for what seemed like decades. Far be it from her to actually display any sense of nostalgia, she tended to keep herself to herself unless addressed otherwise, they were all here for the same thing, the gathering that would follow later that day. Her daughter, Khari, had arrived earlier that morning, and the brief exchange between the two of them had been concerning her success with Rhy Knylenn. At least Anara considered it a success. After that, she had retired to her rooms to prepare, leaving Anara alone in her own, just to escape the 'rabble'
But the problem with being alone, was that one's mind tended to wander, even in such opulent and stimulating surroundings, and these were some of the most lavish Anara had had the pleasure of surrounding herself with. Idly she wondered just how long she should leave it before contacting Rhy again, they had some unfinished business, so to speak, that and he was fun to toy with. Something had stuck in her mind regarding that last encounter though...that look he'd given her, like he was keeping something back, like he knew something she did not and was highly smug about it. Couple that with his little speech about putting his family permenantly back on the top of the pile, and he knew much she was curious about.
Unless he was bluffing, but it wasn't like him to do so when he seemed too certain of everything. He'd accepted her bribe quickly enough, even suggested she, personally, find some means of paying him off. Well he wouldn't get that, so that was his mistake. Not just like that.
Eyeing her comlink, the Kuati senator set it aside, she would call him later, let him stew for a bit, there were things she needed to go over first. And she might even drop in on Khari again - now that troublesome Zann was out of her life, the girl was more focussed, just the way she should be.

A change of clothes, dark and broody like he was feeling, he was on the prowl. After coming to the surface, he had met with his family and expressed his wishes on things such as they would not be attending the council meeting. That only he would go, to throw the others off. A shower and some food later he was speeding on his on using a speeder bike from his garage heading to the Vestra family Estate.
The dead of night, speeding over the plains he pushed the speeder faster and faster to get there sooner. At the edge of the estate he stopped and hide his speeder under a tree. Then walked the rest of the way in silence with only the moons to light the way. He was going to surprise her, she would either be shocked at his audacity or angered by his boldness.
He saw the house up ahead as he looked around, he would need to cross the gardens then climb up the side of the house a story to see her. Easy. There were guards of course but they knew him, had allowed him to pass the last times. He saw no danger there, so started walking as if he belonged there.
The garden ....after getting lost twice in the maze, was past and now he looked up to the window he had to get to. Cursing two story houses and their danger to liaisons between to old friends. Jumping he reached the ledge and tried to pull himself up, half way up he ends up on the ground on his backside. "Next time I will used the front door, no more of this romantic stuff." he muttered under his breathe. Again he tries and this time succeeds and makes it to the window. Tryng to open it, he ....

She had made herself comfortable for the evening, and after a drawn out awkward discussion with Khari, Anara was relishing this moment of respite - understandably, the girl had been agitated, though she didn't go into details as to why, she had her suspicions but hadn't pressed the issue, it was vital that she kept a clear head.
Not really one to 'lounge' Anara had taken up place on a richly upholstered divan, pirched in the edge in an upright position, one leg crossed over the other as she watched the Kuati first holonet news. They, too had caught wind of this meeting, and were requesting interviews left right and center, trying to catch any spokesperson they could to gather hints of what the discussions would entail. By this time tomorrow, she thought, they would know, and Khari would have either cemented her position, or she would fail. Either way Anara won, though she had kept those thoughts serrupticiously to herself. As well she might, there was always something to be reaped from the bitter tang of defeat, just what that was she had kept to herself also. Better to wait and see what the day brought than to waste it planning for something that may never happen.
A strange noise outside the window had her tilting her head in that direction, a muffled thump that sounded distant to her aging, yet no less perfect, ears. Turning her head in that direction, she only allowed the frown that crossed her features to mar them but for a second, turning back to the vidscreen seconds thereafter. Until there it was again...this time with a curse.
Stilling, she knew better than to turn the vidscreen off completely, if there was an intruder outside, that would surely alert them to the fact she was aware of their presence. Next she rose carefully, slowly so as not to create too many shadows in the light that eminated from the room, keeping to the walls she edged her way towards the window in question, covered by some ornate shutters. Perplexing, it was, she thought, that anyone could have gotten past the increased security. But these were trying times and this was an ideal opportunity for their enemies to kill off scores of the ten in one fell swoop.
Anara's hand reached out and grasped ahold of a polished metallic ornament from the nearby shelves, hefting the object in her hand to test the weight, she hadn't brought a blaster with her, and that was to her own detriment, this though, would do the trick if she hit whoever it was hard enough. There came more sounds, resonating from the windows' ledge...scraping, prying, someone was trying to get in.
Bracing herself, she waited until they had begun to inch the window open against the mechanism that held it shut, edging ever closer to her target all the time. She caught a glimpse of his hands under the sil, and raised the object in her hand above head height with the intent to give the intruder an almighty crack across the back of the head when he poked his head through the gap. But that was before she saw it....
Instead, as she had suspected, of a head appearing in the gaping space, the upper portions of a stylishly elaborate hat poked through, accompanied by the lustrous maine of dark brown hair - and not a hair out of place either. Always with the hat, she thought. Anara groaned, be it out of relief or exasperated shock she didn't know, but she dropped the ornament to the ground with a clattering thud beside her, and stepped around into his path.
"Rhy Knylenn! You were about 3 nanoseconds away from being back in that medcenter....what are you doing?!"
He appeared to be a bit stuck too. Looking around as if to ward off the scathing glance of unseen eyes, she stepped forward, grasping him by both forearms and helping to pull him through the gap until he tumbled onto the floor at her feet. There she stood, hand on hip, shaking her head disapprovingly.
"Did you lose the ability to utilize doors during your stay on Coruscant?"

There he was climbing the walls ledge as he made he way up to the window he needed. Slipping and falling and basically making much more noise than he should have. There were vines where three wasn't before, snagging his foot and almost succeeding in tripping him.
Though at long last he made it and was easing himself inside when he heard Anara. That almost had him falling forward his foot still caught around some vines.
"Damn you Anara. What is it with your gardener and his love for vines. Most bothersome things you shall get rid of them..." he tells her looking up at her unapologetically. "If i ended up at the med center it would have been from tripping on those vines, woman. Now help me in side so i can get away from them"
Her door remark had him almost pouting as he told her, "But I'm a prowler in the night come to rob you of your valuables....comes with a ravishment, if I'm not mistaken" he looked pensive for a moment and lunged at her wrapping his arms around her. "Not another word or i get violent." his eyes sparked with amusing devilment with the little light showing in the room. then he kissed her, slow at first. Just a brush of his lips against hers, then seductively coaxing a response from her or trying to.

Rhy wasn't kidding either, because as he tumbled in, he brought half the foliage with him, scattering vine leaves all over the immaculately polished wood flooring in his efforts to free his tangled foot. He managed it just as soon as he was able to right himself.
"I had him put them there to deter maniacs from climbing up to that window ledge, these are civilized times, we use doors now." She reiterated, as she mentally stressed over the fact he'd made such a mess, he wouldn't have done that on his own premises, or maybe he would?
There would be no hiding her surprise at having seen him actually turn up here, though. Did he not have some preparation of his own to do? Evidently that was preparation of a wholey different kind. Before that thought had chance to twixt the corners of her lips into a less than pure smirk, she clamped down on that thought and helped him to his feet.
"You're lucky you don't have another lump on your head to match the one on the other side, honestly, could you not have told me you were planning on dropping in?" That wasn't his game, she wagered, she knew him better than he thought she did, he wasn't here for idle chit chat, not a sharp tongued exchange of words. That would come later, when he questioned her reasons for spurning him to begin with, or at the ruling households gathering.
Anara's unamused expression never abaited, until she saw that wicked glint in his eye...had he been drinking again? She recalled a simliar encounter where he had lost his balance, so that would explain much, but no...he looked stone cold sober. That was pure mischeif in his eyes.
"E..excuse me?" She said, trying her best to not sound like she was giving any ground, but he wasn't going to give her a chance to question him anymore than she had. "Rhy I really don't have time for any of your...oh!" The source of her exclaimation had come from him practically launching himself at her with little more than a thought, his arms encircling her and drawing her tight against him before the woman had any time to even contemplate resistance.
If he hadn't silenced her protests with those words then the kiss would have done the trick, and while she was semi struggling to put some small measure of distance between them, he'd grabbed her in such an awkward - or ingenious - way, that beating her fists against his chest would have felt like little more than a love tap. Rhy's lips landed over her own almost tenderly, a sharp contrast between the amorous way in which he'd chosen to lunge at her, and she caught the faintest hint of something sweet when he committed to those kisses fully, leaving her curious for more. Before Anara had time to listen to her sensibility, she was kissing him back, fully, deeply, if just for a moment....because that sensibility in her kicked in with a vengence.
Drawing one leg back she brought it forward sharply, jabbing the toe of her foot into his shin, not a true kick, but enough to seriously draw his attention. Breaking the kiss in that instant, skin flushed, she certainly didn't look like someone who wanted him to stop, but there she was denying everything, though not in so many words.
"Wait a moment, did I not make myself abhorrently clear earlier?!" She squeaked imperiously, all of a fluster, someone had had their feathers ruffled, "I don't remember asking you to come here and I definitely don't recall asking you to do....that"

That only got a look thrown her way, it wasn't funny in the slightest. He could have broken his neck, least she could do was make it easier for him, right? It didn't matter if it was his way of surprising her and catching her off guard. "You shall have them removed as i said." An order, a command, words put together meant to offend her into acting.
"Not a lick of sense when it comes to acting out some fantasies. This was for you, me and to add something more to just plain old ...'getting it in' " he had come to push things, of he would wait until she decided it was time. Life was about living and enjoying things spontaneously, not waiting around for things to happen. "Spice woman, you need some of that in your life. It shouldn't be all drab and dreary, business and work."
The kiss was working, he felt her tentatively return it, then fully take it further. He helped it on by encouraging it, a low moan silenced by their sealed lips, as he tilted his head to let her take it as far as she wanted. His job was to entice, to make her rethink her conditions and by that single kiss it was going well for him. His hands weren't idle either, they were busy enjoying the feel of the silk heated by her body. Insistent in their path, but always stopping before crossing the line.
The toe jammed against his shin made him wince but more bold, "Enough of this." he told her swooping her into his arms and walking to the bed. "Out there you might put up your airs of superiority, which i allow, but here when its just us two...." he dumps her on the large soft bed. "Here I am in control." he takes off his hate, which still wore and put it aside, followed by his shirt.....

It had the desired effect, she was already drawing herself up defiantly, how dare he demand she do anything, here, her own family's property and he was shouting the odds? Absolutely not!
"I no longer live here, and unless you are thinking of scaling that wall nightly, I have no reason to tell them to do anything." She hissed pointedly, gaining that much needed distance and poking him dead center in the chest with one well manicured fingertip. "I will do no such thing."
Oh he was really pushing his luck, way over the line as far as her tollerance went and no doubt just to get her back for earlier. He wasn't going to get away with that lightly, she'd see to that. As for his carefree, but ranting to rile, manner right now though...
"I have no sense? What makes you believe I don't, you may simply have picked one that displeases me. Which, judging by your lack of tact and ability to show even a scrap of respect is highly likely." Anara replied, trying to draw back a little further so at least he would be in focus, she couldn't. "My dear I told you how this worked, the bump on the head must have knocked something loose. There's no reason why it can't be spontaneous, for instance, did you know when I would ask certain things of you? No...I could have, and still might, pick my opportunity when and where you least expect it. And I won't do it with a bruised rear through falling off a window ledge repeatedly." Giving a small shake of her head she smiled confidently, knowingly, "Very undignified, but a trite amusing."
Her arm slipped around him then, nimble fingertips pinching his undoubtedly pained backside to emphasisze her point there, that and it was rather funny to see him jump or widen his eyes in surprise or outrage. Much like he had appeared to revel in her reactions earlier, and her gaze was all challenge.
It had been easy to become caught up in that kiss, of that much she was guilty, of course she wanted it, wanted him, but the admission alone would have been more than she could ever save face for. But as the heat within her rose, his hands cloying at her heated flesh through the fabric of the gown she wore, Anara was more than tempted into letting his persistence win out just this one time, mind's grip losing hold over the tenuously fraying resolve within. Now it was she who pulled him closer, kissing him hungrily, tongue delving between his lips, teasing him right back while she savoured the taste of him. Head filled with his heady scent he wasn't nearly as willing to just let things take their course...taking matters quite literally into his own hands at a seconds notice.
"Enough of - " Anara's words were again cut short, and with little choice but to cling onto him or be dropped on the unforgiving floor, she just went with it, ending up hefted into his arms only to be plonked unceremoniously onto the soft surface of the bed. The Kuati woman landed with a small bounce that sent her somewhat into disarray, only for her to sit bolt upright and glare at him defiantly, scathingly scrutinizing his latter words as if they were the most heathen things she'd ever heard. Now that would have been a lie...she thought, not comitting the time to that smirk either.
"You only wish!" She replied, chin jutting out proudly, head held high....gaze slyly travelling the contours of his toned body while he busied himself with undressing. Yes, it wasn't hard to see what she'd found so appealing the first time round, she remembered everything in moments of appreciation like this, down to the very last and ridiculously pleasurable detail.
Catching herself this time, she pretended like that hadn't just happened, and resumed her icy glare.

He did only smile knowingly at that first part. "I am young and very vigorous, so that was the plan, yes. How can i come inside if you are closed off to me?" No, the sensible thing to do would be to remove those damned vines. She wasn't going along with his wishes and was expecting a fight over them. Part of the plan. Tomorrow morning was the meeting of the council of Ten, he was going to either keep her up all night or frustrate her to distraction.
"I shall have to insist it is done or we are over before we start." he tells her defiantly just to get her going again.
"So you admit you would be interested in some spice in your life if it was agreeable to you. Now we get somewhere." Should he go for the extreme, or possibly something safe. Perhaps both knowing she would pick one or the other. He could tell her two of his ideas, and force her to pick one.
"So you admit to nothing while leading me on, no my lady, it is why i am here. No more games, no more pretenses, no more keeping me on a line until you want." he got closer and closer to her. he jumped in shock as she reach around him and pinched him. The minx spoke of respect or tact, yet, she showed none to him. The outrage he was feeling was making him bolder. "This time i take, this time say when or how."
He was done with games as he swept her off her feet and to the bed where he laid her down....or rather dumped her unceremoniously. Like he knew she would she was up and about to demand something for him he wasn't whiling to do.
He was about to step up closer when his comlink beeped, then beeped again over and over signaling him someone was calling. One last look at her and he nodded, "You will find soon enough, that what i wish will become true...." he reached for his coat and pulled out his comlink.
"Yes, I'm in the middle of something important here....." he says aggravated to the person on the other end.
"I need your help." the other person said in a rough tone, he was sleepy and tired and had alot to do before the morning. "Get over here and make it a speed record."
Rhy's looks over at Anara and shrugs. "Until next time then, love. I will send you a present in the morning, make sure you wear them for me if you please." he walked closer and with a hand cupping the back of her neck pulled her in for a slow sensuous kiss that left him light headed. "I will try to hurry and be back before morning to finish what i started." gave her another kiss before grabbing his stuff and walks out her door and not the window this time. "Make sure to deal with those vines would you..." and he walks out her room and soon the houses on his way to his speeder.

"I imagine you'll get tired and use that thing between your ears eventually. You could always use a ladder, this circumventing the vines all together." She wasn't giving him serious suggestions, naturally, merely pointing out where he had gone wrong for the sake of a good old fashioned snipe.
Anara's brows drew in so far they almost touched in an expression of disbelief. Did he really just say that to her or was she imagining this? A small pinch to the back of her forearm confirmed what she had feared, no this was really happening - and Rhy was clearly insane.
"Over? I wasn't aware we had actually begun anything." She said somewhat innocently, which was nigh on hilarious coming from one who hadn't experienced a day of innocence since she was too young to remember it.
That was interesting, thought Anara, twice now he'd been exceedingly sure of himself, more so than the usual cockiness that went with his sort, he had always been confident, yes, outspoken, definitely, but here he was trying to provoke her into curiosity. He'd succeeded insurmountably, and she was going to indulge his provocation just this once.
Propping herself back on her elbows, adopting a more relaxed posture while she reclined there where he'd dropped her, she shrugged ever so slightly in prompt. "Oh? And I assume this has something to do with exhonorating your family, does it?" Anara harked back to their conversation the day before, when he had told her he didn't need her help in anything concerning getting his family out of the decades long ditch they had been stuck in. A pity, she thought, she rather looked forward to humbling them further.
The insistant bleeping of his comlink was slightly grating on the nerves, high pitched and relentless, she glared at him in that 'please just answer it' way that needed no words. But what she heard couldn't have surprised her more. While Rhy had taken every effort to keep the volume of the device down, the voice on the other end was definitely familiar to her. At present, she couldn't work out why, exactly, but it had a slight core-accented twang to it, not completely corebound, but certainly not of someone who originated in the mid to outer rim. So where had she heard it and why was that person demanding things of Rhy of all people?
She would keep that quiet, thought the Senator, ponder it some more and then decide, when she worked out a possible source, what she would do with the information. There was no point in worrying Khari over this, Rhy Knylenn was the least of her concerns. Not that she would have been doing her daughter a service out of the kindness of her own heart anyway - theirs was a strained relationship to say the least.
"Well, well, that was interesting, do I take it you have to go? Aww..." She said mock interested, pouting a little at the end there for emphasis of a truly sarky kind. If she was disappointed, she wouldn't show it, she'd get him back later.
As if it had never left her, incredulity welled up inside the older kuati now, taking the place of smugness.
"Them? Rhy...what are you scheming?" Anara asked in that way older people often did of the generation beneath them, as if they knew already that this wasn't going to be good. Or maybe it was. That, no doubt, was a point of view thing. "You're leaving? Now?!" The tone of her voice grew suddenly higher in pitch, so he broke in here, scattering pieces of broken vine and leaves all around the place, demanded things of her with the intention to get what he desired, and now he was leaving?! Oh charming!
"There will be no trying anything, you will be back, because you and I need to have a little chat! Don't think you can simply come in here and shout the odds at me like I am some....some....servant of yours! Have you no respect? I should-" His kiss partially silenced her, with her protesting just a tad more, muffled by the ferocity with which he claimed her lips, right up until she had begun to respond. And that was when he broke it too. He was too much!
Rhy was already making for the door, when the quip about the vines left his lips, silencing her all over again in outrage. As the door slid closed again, still she sat there, where he'd left her, utterly confounded as to what had gotten into him. And who was he in such a hurry to meet? Since when did the Knylenn's answer to anyone? He was up to something...but what?
Pulling herself to her feet, she crossed the room and picked up her personal comlink, keying in a short frequency and waiting for the other end to pick up.
"Senator?"
"Yes, I need you to do me a small favour...forget tomorrow, I have a task for you right now, I'll appoint someone else as my personal security. There should be a man headed your way right about now, you won't be able to miss him, flamboyantly attired, gigantic hat...no, not a telbun. Follow him, and make it descreet. I want to know who he's going to meet." Anara ordered offhandedly, her mind still trying to pique at the memory of that voice - there had been a lot of noise in the background, so whoever it was was currently in a public place, that would provide some good cover if that was the case.
"As you wish, M'lady."
Now she could settle back, wait, and enjoy the rest of her evening in the knowledge she'd have a potentially interesting edge for the meeting tomorrow. It might even give her the opportunity to lord something over Rhy for a change.

The trip was a short one, their silence making it go faster for some reason. Other times it would have made it seem like an eternity but not so this trip. Upon landing at the private residence of the Knylenn family, they all exited and looked at each other.
"I need a speeder or lift to the Vestra's, Rhy." Tress breaks the silence looking at the two of them. They were quiet, and he didn't like it. Though the talks of Anara spurred them into some kind of twisted weird challenge. It came to him that Deklin could have .....had prior knowledge of Anara, but he never would have imagined it. Rhy seemed taken by her and had taken a dislike to Deklin over it.
"I will take you." he answers looking away from the other male. "Your friend will find my house hold staff will give him a room to spend the night, while we go do what must be done."
"That is fine by me, I could use the rest." the older man says with a smile.
So they were off, the two of them entering a waiting speeder that had pulled up, while the other was left standing alone to watch as they pulled away. It had been some time since he had been on the surface of kuat. His mind went back to that last time, and the woman he had meet on a night like this one as he did some scouting. Quickly he reached into his pocket and made a call. It was short, sweet and untraceable.
"Meet me at the river like we used to..."
At the time she didn't know who he had been, or he her, but possibly what happened soon after she would have. Though he was willing to beat it would make her react now just to try to get back at him. That and if he could rile up Rhy for his rudeness earlier, so much the better.

Khari rubbed her eyes tiredly, then set the datapad down for what she hoped would be the last time. Three times now she had tried to settle, to relax away from the cuffuffle that was going on elsewhere in the household, with everyone wishing to bring up 'interesting' points of view with her prior to the meeting, insisting she bring up their issues also. Three times and she'd found something else to note, to stay up for.
Enough was enough, everything else could wait until morning.
It made an odd change not to have the constant wirr and thrum of life support systems going on around you, a novelty even. And at the same time, a noise Khari had found most irksome and grating, she now missed in some odd sense of the way. It wasn't something she had ever thought she'd feel, but she was sort of anxious to be back up there on the array, really get things moving.
"This time tomorrow, it will all be done with." She said alloud with a sigh, to nobody at all but herself, then switched the datapad off, and placed it to one side, she wasn't taking any chances with that again, even if someone could grab it, the device would be useless if accessed by anyone but herself, she had purchased a new one, the best that she could get, with various means of recognition only apliccable to one person, it would take a while to replicate everything and if there were too many slip ups, the device would overheat it's self into meltdown.
One thing she had missed, was her own bed - or one of them. And as untoward as that sounded, the hotel she had been spending the majority of her time in lately, courtesy of her former assistant and her 'friend', was less than adequate in her opinion, the best or not. Khari slipped into bed, and lay herself down, her head had barely touched the pillow before...
"Blast..." She had remembered one last thing.
But it was too late, sleep already had her firmly in it's clutches, and she didn't do more than turn over where she was, before she was claimed by fatigue compltely.
****
Anara hadn't been able to raise Khari on her comlink, so had supposed the girl must have finally gotten some rest, the last she had heard was merely to hear that report on if Rhy had accepted the settlement and terms as it were. They had spoken in passing throughout the course of the day, but nothing too in depth. She had hoped to give her daughter a few points she should bring up tomorrow, but they would have to wait now. She certainly wound't appreciate her going all the way down there just to wake her up for that.
The hour grew late and she highly doubted that Rhy was going to return anytime soon, if at all. He was so flighty lately it didn't bear thinking about. That did raise more than the usual questions in her head, especially when accompanied by the information she had recieved. Now that might have been reason enough to wake Khari, but she wasn't entirely sure about the circumstances behind she and Zann's absence. It really was best to wait this out. Before she could place her comlink on the nightstand though, it bleeped to signal an incoming message. This one was only text rather than image or voice though, and what she found contained within it had her raising a brow in curiosity.
"Meet me at the river like we used to..."
Anara frowned, brows beetling for a second, by the river? She hadn't met anyone by the- Except him. But it couldn't be, she'd heard the reports, watched the news, he was dead, and buried, if not fired into the center of some gas giant somewhere, and the nerve of it, even if he wasn't. Still, what was she to do, go there and find herself the victim of whatever scam was set up down there? After what he had done, she wouldn't have been surprised! It had taken her months to cover up the fact she had ever been involved with him, in however small a capacity that had been, if anyone had known...well that would have been detrimental to her entire career. She had barely ventured into politics at the time. But no one else knew that was where they had met, they couldn't...not unless he had told them, and she doubted that, he was nigh on a ghost in the night...oh the irony!
Well there was one way to find out. She keyed in that frequency and replied, she needed to hear his voice to be sure, see his face. This was madness, she told herself, but this was one thing she would find nagging at her mind for the rest of her life if she didn't. No surprises then, when it connected.
"Aren't you busy being dead?"

The quiet beep of his comlink alerted him to some message coming in. He took the time to see it, knowing it was important to do so. Hearing it made him grin and on he went slipping inside a room at the far end of the hall. Inside sleeping was the woman he had strong feelings for and soon they would serve to push him to do something few would dare.
*****
Rhy had taken her earlier suggestion to heart and had walked boldly in and up to her rooms as if he owned the place. He got looks but that was all, it was late and he was expecting her to be asleep which he didn't mind in the slightest. Trying the door he enters silently, locking the door behind him as he nears the bed.
He notices shes not asleep and shes talking into a comlink, and approaches from the other side and sits on the bed beside her. "Who should be dead?" he asked her taking off his ridiculously tall hat. "Who are you talking to this late at night anyway?"
****
"How can anyone be dead for long when just your voice can...." he stopped speaking when he heard someone else in the room. Guessing it was Rhy he grinned and offered nothing more than an enticement. "If your not to busy being bored, meet me or would you rather I spirit you away like the old times.?"

So engrossed in her conversation was Anara, that she hadn't heard the subtle click of the door's lock cycling and the panel sliding open. Much less had she heard Rhy cross the floor in a couple of long strides, actually negating the hat for once and tucking it under one arm.
Of course, the second he rounded the bed, she nearly jumped out of her skin!
Biting out a curse of surprise, then clamping down on the follow up opening salvo, the Kuati Senator clutched a hand to her chest just above her heart sympathetic to it's speeding beat. It felt, for a second there, as if it would burst out of her ribs. Upon seeing who it was, all immaculate long hair and flamboyant clothing, Anara glared imperiously at him for his actions, he'd just made her look foolish and no one made her look foolish.
"I see you learned how to use the door, now if only you could have knocked." She hissed, then glancing at the comlink she had dropped on the bed beside her, finally acknowledging his question.
Somewhat relieved that he wasn't an attacker, she didn't think much to answering Rhy, whereas normally, she might have berated him for trying, she just answered plainly. After all, what did she have to hide that was any of his business? Aside from the fact that the man on the other end of the comlink was supposedly a dead crimelord, nothing at all.
"A dead man...at least he is supposed to be..."
Things were about to get worse, much worse.
Anara grimaced deeply, that wasn't going to sound right by any stretch of the imagination, though why should she care? Their last encounter had been decades ago and she hadn't a clue who he was then, when she had found out, she'd gone to great lengths to cover that several night stand up. He'd done that on purpose, answered like that, Rhy wasn't exactly quiet about his arrival... She would repay that favour one day.
"And I suppose the sound of my voice has also caused you to repent your wicked ways and repay all the damage you inflicted, repay the credits that it took a lifetime to account for also? No? I didn't think so," She said cooly, he'd really done a number on her before leaving. As ever though, he was one step ahead and the damage was already done, he would reply.
"Spirit me away.....excuse me? You did no such thing!" Anara sputtered, the words failing her completely at one point. All stiff posture and terse words, it was obvious that he'd struck a nerve there for abject response. Even though it wasn't any of Rhy's business, she turned and looked at him with that same imperious expression from before, and shook her head.
"He's lying, he wouldn't have lived to tell the tale, I thought he hadn't." She explained...why was she explaining this to him? She protested too much.
"And he knows I have company." That much was fact, he'd paused right before saying the last thing, stopped talking all together when Rhy had begun speaking.
Attention now back on the comlink, Anara's mind raced for the smallest of moments, it didn't take long with her to come up with the answers to just about any offer. Especially a good one. Was she tempted though? Oh yes, she usually was if anyone knew her true vices and he did at that. What held her back was if this was a trick, he was dead, the holonet news had reported it, any imperial frequency was reporting it at the time, that all this man's assets had been inherited by his son, who had willingly given some of them back in his father's stead. A charitable criminal...whatever next?
"Firstly, who said I was bored? I'm just keeping my options open. And secondly, how do I know you're really you?" She asked suspiciously, mentally adding the note of having a much better idea than his suggestion - it would be safer for her too. But Rhy had to be game... A single glance at him left her wondering if he would be, he'd been nosey enough to sneak up on her and then ask what she was doing. How nice of him to care...now that was a novelty.

"You cant have it all your way." he tells her sitting beside her on the bed hearing her conversation. It was hard not to when she appeared to not even be trying to hide it from him. He could barely hear the other end of things, just her replies.
It was a mans voice, he thought as he strained to hear more, triggering something in him. He knew that voice, had just met the man in fact. What was he doing calling Anara? He had seemed interested in her when he spoke to Tress earlier about what he had interrupted. Now here he was talking to her.
"A dead man?" he asked more to himself than her. Why would the man Tress identified as, Deklin, be dead? Who was he anyhow and how did he know Anara? "Who is it and why should he be dead?"
*****
"Don't be this way, Anara. I did what i had to do, but didn't mean i hadn't fallen for you while we were together." he lies to her, making it sound sincere. "If i had the credits to give as repayment i would give them to you....but, as of now all i can offer is my humble self as repayment." This was a game, one between the three of them. He was going to beat Rhy and take Anara while he was on planet if he could. Let the younger Kuati know and gloat about it, but it all rested on how susceptible Anara was to his charms. Funny thing was he didn't see himself as having any charm.
"So you admit you came on your own, knowing it was wrong but the excitement of what you were doing spurred you into my arms?" he teased seeing where they would take him. They had met mutually, seeking something the other was giving and had enjoyed it up until his identity was revealed.
He could hear her over the line talking to Rhy, explaining things trying to be the peace keeper it seemed. She had changed, "Explaining things to your toys now are we? Oh, how things have changed, next you will be asking for permission to come see me." of course he knew she ahd company, why else was she talking and explaining things to someone. "Must get boring."
He whispered a dirty little secret to her, proving who he was without a doubt to her. It had to do with a birth mark on her, well its a secret. "Does that prove things or shall i tell you what i did the last time we were together?" he was done playing games. "Come to me or I shall lay siege to your estate and take you by force, breach your walls, ravage, pillage and all those things....."
As an after thought, "Lose the boy while your at it, this is unfinished business between you and I?"

Somewhere behind her she had half expected Rhy to ask more questions than that, the tinge of suspicious jealousy in his voice undeniably audible, but she waved away his simpering questions with a hand gesture, adding condensation to the mix for good measure.
"Not now Rhy, the adults are speaking."
Well aware of how that would make him feel after his 'not all her own way' comment, she continued to show him the proverbial back of her hand while she listened to what was being said on the other end of the comlink, she'd waited a long time to hear this, after all.
The older kuati rolled her eyes, something he would never see but sometimes it was as if she was made of stone, far from impassive, but cold to say the least. Things were usually done on her own terms and on a whim, the little liason or series of, had been no different and he knew it. Oh she'd been young and impressionable enough at the time, but those experiences had taught her some good valuable lessons. One of them was never to believe anything that came out of the mouthes of those who might seek to gain from you. There was much he could incriminate her for, and if he'd been faking his own death for so long, why come back now, here of all places, to the place where everything had come to a point?
"Touching, but ultimately false" Anara commented flatly, "I remember you, I remember how you were and don't think that age has scrubbed my mind of every sordid detail either. I also remember what you did, so play nice now."
It wasn't really her situation to call, he could turn it around, somehow implicate her, which would be very bad for her family as a whole, not to mention Kuat. She would just have to see where this was going then. He wanted something, but was it as simple as he made it out to be?
Her ire had never been far from simmering beneath the surface, and that anger within her boiled anew when he said that. She knew it was meant to get her wound up, to provoke, so why give him the satisfaction of letting him know it had worked? Because some things were based on principle, giving in would have been admitting that he was right, so there was no point in keeping her silence.
"I admit nothing, maybe I did it because I felt like it, maybe other reasons, you'll just have to wonder now won't you?" She replied cooly, that icy front she was displaying not disspating yet, as for the rest though, "Why? Are you afraid I might tell him something vital to your plight to keep your identity hidden? Be mindful of what you tell me, you aren't the only one with a few choice cards in your deck. I do what I want, as ever." Reaching over to where Rhy sat slightly behind and to the side of her, she had her gaze on him now, if the man on the other end of the comm wanted to play games with her then so be it, but she would get her own way in the end. Whatever he wanted remained to be seen and that was the problem. What did he want? Placing her index finger beneath Rhy's chin, she captured it with the pinch of her thumb to draw him close to her in a single deft movement. Barely touching, she leaned in towards him and made sure that the person on the comm heard every word of what she was about to say, or rather the way in which she said it.
"And why shouldn't I enjoy the finer things in life if I still can? He is just that, fine, viggorious, agile...how is that hip replacement working out for you by the way t-...oh forgive me I almost let that slip there, what name do you go by these days?" Anara held Rhy's rather indignant stare for a moment, though her words were all for 'the' Zann. Eventually releasing her hold on Rhy, though, she found her temper cooling a little "But boring? No, never boring." The temptation to pick up where she and Rhy had left off was strong, but she didn't give into it, turning back to face the right way round even though it irked her to have to do so. He'd made something of a mockery of her earlier and tried to shout the odds, she needed to assert herself all over again.
That she hadn't been expecting and with no means of knowing for sure if Rhy had actually heard the first part or not - not that it really would have mattered - she actually found herself blushing, but only just. Oh no, that didn't go unchecked.
"Point well made, thank you very much." She hissed, not well enough prepared for the rest.
"As eloquent as ever I see...but you couldn't possibly be revealing your hand there, you don't have nearly the type of means as you used to, coming here would be suicide on your part. Alright, but the place is one of my choosing and the boy stays." Leaving him a few moments to contemplate it, she looked back at Rhy wondering if he'd actually agree to that, he was his own person after all, second class citizen or not, "The gardens of tralala...you'll know the spot, agreed?"

She could have said nothing worse to rile him up, he hated being treated as a child when he wasn't. He was going to show them all with Tress's help on just how grown up he actually was. He had plans, too. Just a matter of implementing them to show them all just how much he'd grown. Though he had to bide his time, and that meant playing things up with Anara. Letting others see him as a toy, thing to be used while plans were set into motion.
It still grated on his nerves, "Just who exactly are you speaking to like that, you and I have a deal and i am here to make use of it." strong suggestive words, but it was to late to take them back now.
****
"You did it for the pleasure, lie to yourself if you want, but not to me." The time to be cocky had arrived, no point in holding things back from her. "Tell him something? He needs are of no concern to me, after all what else could be possibly need to know....other than i plan on taking you from him. let her deal with that
"Ah, now we speak to the Kuati i know and had before. The pleasure seeker, the user and the lair." he was enjoying this now, seeking to trip her off balance by insulting her. She had always been some what of a hot tempered woman.
When she wanted proof, he gave it to her. When she wanted confirmation of things he went into details on certain birthmark on her person. One that only a special...well, lots of people have seen.
"Type of means i used to? Who do you think helped me get to the surface so easily? You thought the Zann's wouldn't have anyone working the inside for us? He might not know who i am, but he is partners with my grandson Tress..." he waited for that to sink in, let her come to her own conclusion on who "he" was that helped him to the surface. "Bring your toy along then, I shall say hi to him when we meet att he gardens then....till then"

Make use of it? Now that was rich, especially coming from him. He might like to think he had the upper hand, he might have even clawed at it for a while earlier, but he never held the reins, ever - not as far as she was concerned. There was only ever one way to deal with an outburst like that and it was to meet it head on.
Plaintive in her manner and counterance, she looked at Rhy unapologetically, "Then do so." There she sat for several moments, with little more than the occasional crackle from the comlink and her own heartbeat for background noise, steady, not shaken by anything she had heard thus far, when he didn't move immediately, she arched a slender brow ever so slowly, "No...?"
Interesting, thought Anara analytically, but not surprising, he thought he could perhaps embarrass her there with that admission, or rather her admission. He would be waiting a while for that.
"Of course I did, I wouldn't have done it if I didn't gain anything from our interaction, unless of course you assumed it was just your, oh I don't know, charming personality and colourful background?" Criminal background was more like it and she made no effort to disguise just where she had been going with those words in that instance. "And do you now? I would think that decision is ultimately mine, you've been gone a long time, things have changed."
Laughing a wicked little chuckle at that, she could only slowly shake her head, if he'd thought that would get under her skin he was only partially right. All it really served to do was heighten her amusement, it then occurred to her that this might have been his goal the entire time, he wasn't a stupid man so caught up in himself he didn't know how to twist people into doing what he required, and perhaps the only way Anara was going to find out what he wanted was to go along. Rhy would serve his own purpose too...
"You can have that one, but only because I found it humerously ironic coming from you." Anara said, smiling thinly.
Now they were really getting somewhere, he'd confirmed that Tress was who he had said he was, his grandson, and she doubted anyone would have been able to con their way into his life and be so convincing as to pretend to be a relative. A blessing then, that the boy was out of her daughter's life forever. Who was this inside man though? It really could have been any number of personnel, loyalty wasn't exactly a trait revered by the Kuati, the fact that Khari knew of a potential information leak was lost on Anara personally, had she known, the older woman would have put two and two together there. But such was the need of security that this bypassed the senator alltogether.
"I didn't 'think' anything." She replied in clipped tones, "I know you would, and we will see you shortly then. No nasty surprises, or you'll have a few of your own." Shutting down the connection, she hadn't stopped looking at Rhy the entire time, he was strangely quiet for one who had just overheard most of that, fair enough then, though Anara, but he still needed to agree to this.
"Seems like we are taking a little trip...do you still have your transport outside?"

A test? One he was going to have to fail. The undying need to know who the other person was being top priority to him now. She wasnt going anywhere, and this new competition was grating on his nerves. Just when he thought he had her someone comes along and ruins his plans. While he didnt have a set plan for anara, he did want to continue where they had left off all those months ago.
It did bother him to stand down, "Keep pushing and you'll force my hand." was all he said as he waited for the right time.
***
In knew for a fact it was all of those she named. He had been a mystery, alittle bit forward and dangerous in that he asked her to keep meeting him in secrecy.
"It was all of those, Anara. Your intrigued now, admit it.... wondering why i am back here after all this time...even after being reported as dead and long gone." she was interested alright, that wondering what he was doing back floating around in her head.
"Not much has changed, it was a foregone conclusion the moment I contacted you. After that it was just a matter of time....tell me do you ever think back to those nights? The stars overhead, the trickling creek near by, the cool breeze cooling out heated skin..." he was smiling now, knowing she would deny it. If she didnt he would have her regardless.
"I rather just have you instead...." thats all he would say on the matter. No lie only truth. One that would work at her.
He didnt like the idea of Rhy coming along so when she cut the line he made another call, this time it was a message only. "Rhy, i need a ride and we need to talk, you and I." he had it forwarded using Tress's comlink to appear like he was sending the message. "Wait for me I wont be long."
Smiling he got back inside his barrowed speeder and circled back around to the estate. Hopefully Rhy would buy it and stay behind, while Anara continued on board the speeder he was pulling up to the house with....

Rhy's comlink goes off beeping and he sees the message.....

She would believe that when she saw it, he'd tried to assert himself earlier only to find his masters had called him and then he was off again, what would make now different if they called again? Very little, she suspected. Therefore, in her mind, it didn't actually require an answer, he could go on believing what he wanted to for as long as it served to keep him quietly amused. It gave her more room for manouver anyway.
It was the comlink her curiosity was focussed well and truly on, or rather the person supposedly speaking to her. He knew things that only that person would, or should. Could a droid have found those things out? Only if he had told them to it, programmed it even. It wasn't the type of thing you spoke about over dinner to put it one way.
"Curiosity is unbecoming of one such as myself, you know how it goes. But off the record? Yes, yes I am. There's no harm in admitting it." Anara responded matter of factly, he could read her well, but that had taken little doing, she wasn't hiding her interest much.
The words 'more than you'll ever know' were on the tip of her tongue, but he'd get far too much satisfaction from hearing them, she had experienced many nights since, naturally, but she did remember what he was talking about, vividly so. The memory made her flush hot even now - she had been younger then, much younger and at a point in her life where everything seemed ahead of her. It had been around that time shortly after Khari's birth, when she had been keen to disassociate herself with anything to do with the girl's father, her real father that was. And if that meant being seen with someone nobody knew much about, then that was what she was going to do. Then he had happened, a bit of fun, little more, she was a Kuati woman exercising her rights do do as she pleased, nothing strange in that, at least here anyway.
"I may have recalled it once or twice, but let's not inflate that ego of yours too much, i'd like to keep my feet on the ground this time." He would know of what she spoke, Rhy on the other hand would be getting more and more vexed by the second, two for the price of one, wonderful...for her. "A matter of time or not, that doesn't mean things haven't changed with me. Come now, you have a family of your own as you have stated, a grandson no less? Getting on a little aren't we? Presumably you had a son or daughter at some point, no wife at home cracking the lightwhip?" It was all just a dig at him, never meant to portray any sort of jealousy, she wasn't, pure and simple.
Oh she hated him, inwardly seething as she did, not because of what he'd said, that was something else. What he'd managed to do, stun her into silence, she - a senator - left sputtering like some wet-behind-the-ears aide! Her tongue simply wouldn't cooperate with her mind, which was well and truly in a spin, the electric sense of thrill rendering it completely useless for several moments that seemed like an eternity.
"You, already have." She managed rather ridiculously after, a poor response to say the least but what else could she offer him, the truth? Never.
But by the time he'd cut the conversation she was already looking back at Rhy with a newborn curious glance, the persisten beeping of his own comlink sounding off in the room in that shrill tone that just begged to be answered.
"What now?" She hoped he wasn't actually going to answer that, he was coming with her, or so she thought. "We have somewhere to be, you and I."
